Quick News

Council Community Sponsorship Applications are now open for Redland City Council's Sponsorship Program, providing financial and in-kind support for local events and initiatives. Mayor Jos Mitchell said the program helps local organisations, community groups and individuals hold activities that benefit the community, focusing on social connection, local partnerships, economic growth and community identity.

Funding is available across three categories: Minor sponsorship up to $15,000, Major sponsorship from $15,001 to $30,000, and Quandamooka Cultural Awareness Funding up to $1500. In-kind support such as venue hire and permit fees is also available. Applications close on 3 August 2025. For more information and to apply, visit Council's Grants and sponsorship webpage or call 3829 8999.

Repair works - Island foreshore Redland City Council has completed erosion repair works along Coochiemudlo Island's coastal fringe, ensuring safe community access to the island's foreshores. Mayor Jos Mitchell said the works targeted foreshore access tracks and open spaces damaged by Tropical Cyclone Alfred and recent wet weather, with heavy rain causing significant overland flow and erosion.

Repairs were completed at four key community sites: two locations near the barge ramp on Main Beach, one near the Melaleuca Wetlands, and another at the eastern end of Morwong Beach. The Mayor said the repairs ensure these valued community assets remain accessible for many years to come, particularly benefiting island locals.

Redlands to name new Metro Pressure is mounting for Redlands to choose a distinctive name for its Eastern Metro rapid bus line extension to Capalaba ahead of the 2032 Olympics. Various names have been floated including The Red Line, The Bay Line, Redlands Rapid, and Coast Link, each aiming to capture the region's coastal identity.

State Members Rebecca Young and Amanda Stoker back "Redlands Rapid", while local councillors have proposed options from Red Coast Line to Bay Breeze Ecoline. Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner confirmed new Metro lines will follow standard naming conventions, but vehicles will carry local names celebrating regional identity.
