Know a Friendly Group in Capalaba?

A mum who just moved to Capalaba is looking to help her 25-year-old daughter find some social groups. They’re looking for casual catch-ups—like gym, walking, or coffee groups. Got any suggestions? Drop them here. Let’s help her feel at home.

Remembering Lewis Dougherty

Lewis Dougherty’s family shared that he passed peacefully at 6pm on Thursday, 17th July, after a short battle. A proud Redlands local, Lewis was well known for his red Mini, his daily coffee stops, and his kind presence. He’ll be deeply missed.

We asked AI to roast Redlands Suburbs, How’d it Do?

1. Thornlands
Thornlands, mate, you’re the suburb developers forgot to finish. Half residential, half farmland, with a side of mangroves and koalas lazing in the trees—pick a vibe, will ya? You’re growing faster than a teenager’s appetite, but your roads and infrastructure are stuck in the dial-up era. Eprapah Creek’s mangroves are lovely for fish, but for residents? It’s just a fancy way of saying “swamp.” Keep dreaming of that bayside prestige, but for now, you’re just Cleveland’s awkward cousin.

2. Wellington Point
Wellington Point, you’re like the suburb that got invited to the party but forgot to bring the vibe. That pointy bit of land jutting into Moreton Bay is cute for Instagram snaps at sunset, but when the tide’s out, it’s just a muddy stretch with seagulls fighting over chip scraps. You’ve got that quaint village feel with your coffee shops, but let’s be real—your “famous” fish and chips are just overpriced bait for tourists. And the train station? Mate, it’s so slow you could walk to Brisbane faster. Keep trying to be the Redlands’ postcard star, but you’re more like the postcard that got lost in the mail.

3. Ormiston
Ormiston, you’re the suburb equivalent of a midlife crisis—trying to be fancy but still stuck in the ‘burbs. Those heritage-listed mansions and tree-lined streets scream old money, but your average Joe’s just dodging potholes on roads that haven’t seen an upgrade since the 80s. You’re close to Cleveland, yet somehow feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere—how do you pull that off? And that train line running through you? It’s less “scenic commute” and more “rattle your windows at 6 a.m.” Keep your koalas and your quaint charm, but maybe invest in some actual nightlife that isn’t just the local bowlo.

Stay tuned for part three next week 😂
