Quick News

Transport Strategy Consultation Open Redland City Council is seeking community feedback on two major transport strategies until 27 July. The Draft Cleveland Centre Local Area Transport Plan and Draft Redlands Coast Active Transport Strategy both look at improving access, safety and connectivity for the growing population over the next two decades.

The plans focus on better walking, cycling and public transport connections, particularly within five kilometres of major destinations. Have your say online or visit Council libraries and customer service centres.

Mangrove 'Pong Season' Returns It's that time of year again - residents near mangrove wetlands in Thorneside, Thornlands and Victoria Point are experiencing the annual rotten egg smell from May to November.

The odour comes from mangrove seeds breaking down naturally, not sewage, and Queensland Health confirms there are no long-term health impacts. While smelly, mangroves are environmental heroes that provide fish habitat, support migratory birds and help prevent coastal erosion.

NAIDOC Week Kicks Off NAIDOC Week officially launches this Sunday 6 July with a free cultural celebration at Raby Bay Harbour Park from 9am-2pm.

This year's theme is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy" and the event will feature traditional smoking ceremonies, Quandamooka music and dancing, weaving workshops, market stalls and children's activities. Entertainment includes Joe Geia and the band, Yulu Burri Ba dancers and the Wagga Torres Strait Island Dance Company.

Public Service Announcement

Capalaba Park Commotion

Noticed the building works happening in the car park of Capalaba Park shopping centre?

Word is - Zarraffa’s is relocating to the carpark and changing to a drive-thru coffee shop. Shoppers are concerned about the already congested entry/exit points of the centre.

Community Discussion

Capalaba Mural Up for Debate

The long-controversial "scary baby faces" mural along Moreton Bay Road in Capalaba is sparking fresh debate about whether it's time for a makeover.

Originally created in 2000 to celebrate local families, the nearly 30-year-old artwork has become more notorious than beloved, with critics arguing it presents a poor first impression to visitors—especially with the 2032 Brisbane Olympics approaching.

While Redland City Council says their hands are tied since it sits on state-controlled land, there's growing calls to replace the faded mural with something that better showcases the modern Redlands

What should we have here?
